You can do reasonably well if you're staying at the Holiday Inn Express North, off I-25 on Alameda. For example, you actually get quite a good view of proceedings simply from I-25, but stopping on the shoulder (or road) for balloon photography is illegal and is enforced. The 'uphill' (i.e., east of the park) consideration is important, but so is the right-of-way. So:īroadly, anywhere nearby with an accessible right-of-way and uphill from the Balloon Park will work, sort of.
However, I also understand that some people are seriously crowd-phobic - I am myself to some extent - and would rather avoid the crowds even at the cost of a less rewarding experience. I agree with wings: immersion is the way to go and is worth the (considerable) effort to make it happen.
